From celebrating food to celebrating national pride, Belize loves to throw a good festival, no matter the occasion. One of the many reasons why there’s never really a bad time to visit is that you’re bound to encounter some grand celebration or another, regardless of the time of year. Want to experience the festivities for yourself? Here are some annual Belize festivals and celebrations to put on your calendar.
The Chocolate Festival of Belize
The Toledo district is the undisputed chocolate capital of Belize, and for the past eighteen years, it has been the setting for the annual Chocolate Festival. Head to Belize’s southernmost district in May for a taste of all things “food of the gods”.
This yearly festival officially kicked off on May 3rd, 2025, in Bella Vista Village. The main events will take place from May 16th to 18th and will feature everything from a chocolate street fete in Punta Gorda Town to friendly competition and cultural performances at various villages.
Won’t be in Belize in time for the Chocolate Festival? Get a taste of what you missed when you book a chocolate-making tour at any of The Belize Collection resorts.
Hopkins Mango Fest
June is for celebrating all things mango season, and there’s no better place to do it than in Hopkins. The annual Hopkins Mango Fest is a two-day festival celebrating what is arguably Belize’s favorite summer fruit. This year, it takes place on Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th. The street festival will feature a slew of vendors serving up delicious snacks and drinks, including plenty of mango-based treats.
Festival goers will also have the chance to participate in fun competitions, purchase local art and handmade crafts, and enjoy some live music. Be sure to check out the biggest mango competition for a look at just how varied this local fruit is. (Belize is believed to be home to over 60 varieties!) Plus, stop by The Belize Collection’s booth for a wide sampling of mango-infused snacks, including ceviche, tacos, and pupusas.
Book a stay at Almond Beach Resort or The Lodge at Jaguar Reef and get to enjoy the full two-day Mango Fest experience.
Lobster Fest at Jaguar Reef
Come and celebrate the opening of Belize’s Spiny Lobster Season with us in Southern Belize. This July will see the return of Jaguar Reef’s annual Mini Lobster Fest and Artisan Market. With the beautiful beaches of Hopkins as your backdrop, take your pick from a variety of lobster-based foods, including whole grilled lobsters served up with a side of garlic butter sauce.
Then, head over to the artisan market, where creatives and entrepreneurs from all across Belize will have a wide range of locally crafted products on sale. That includes jewelry, skin care products, candles, and much more. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Mini Lobster Fest without the annual Battle of the Bartenders competition. Watch the thrilling conclusion to one of our most highly anticipated events as you root for your favorite cocktail master. Who will take the title of Bartender of the Year this time around?
Belize’s September Celebrations
At the tail end of the summer, Belize will still be celebrating in a big way. September is the country’s most active month, featuring several days of national celebrations that run the gamut from carnival and musical festivals to independence day parades and beauty pageants.
All month long, the festive colors of red, white, and blue will adorn the nation’s streets, and it’s a great time to immerse yourself in Belizean culture. Don’t miss carnival in places like Belize City, Orange Walk, and Placencia. If you’re a fan of traditional music, be sure to check out Pan Yaad—a massive and iconic festival dedicated to steel pan music. On September 21st, toast to Belize’s independence while sipping on your favorite local cocktail.
Garifuna Settlement Day
End your year of Belize festivals with Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations, which take place every year on November 19th. This special day commemorates the arrival of the Garifuna people to Belize after being exiled from the island of St. Vincent.
An afro-indigenous people, the Garifuna people brought with them a rich culture and vibrant heritage, much of which is put on display in November in Belize. Savor traditional Garifuna foods like hudut with us at Jaguar Reef. Or venture into Hopkins for drumming lessons. On the day itself, visit the shores of any coastal community in southern Belize for a full reenactment of the Garifuna people’s arrival.
