A scenic drive to San Ignacio Town in the Cayo District brings you to the first stop which is the San Ignacio Farmer's market. Here you can witness the harmonious intermingling of the diverse cultures of Belize; witness a display of fresh produce by local farmers; try local cultural delicacies; view natural Mayan herbal medicine and spices or collect some local souvenirs. After experiencing the local market we drive to the ancient site of Xunantunich which name derives from the Yucatec Language meaning "Stone Woman". This site is situated on a natural limestone ridge. It is a classic ceremonial site dating back to the 7th century AD and is only accessible via a hand cranked ferry. Once across the river you will have the opportunity to explore the site and climb to the top of "El Castillo" one of the tallest manmade structures in Belize, which offers panoramic views of Belize and Guatemala. We then enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants in the area before heading back.
