How often do you go cave tubing? Did you say never? I’d say it’s about time you grab a head lamp, life vest, inner tube, and join this adventure in Belize!

Belize is one of few places in the world where cave tubing can be done and enjoyed! The experience is refreshing and offered throughout the country with a variety of different caves to choose from. However, if you are seeking the thrill of your life, the cave to experience is the ‘Mother of All Caves’… Nohoch Che’en Archaeological Reserve at Caves Branch.

This cave is like no other! It is the only one with a five cave river system where the river cave forms unbroken tunnels that you can float straight through. If you want to experience the entire route, you are in for quite an adventure! Persons who choose this route, stay overnight as the first two cave systems are longer than the last three combined.

Whichever tour you choose, be prepared to encounter the feeling of awe while you ride on crystal clear water as your guide educates you about the history, culture and mysteries of the ancient cave system. The story of Xibalba (the Underworld) is quite interesting especially when certain areas in the cave has become pitch black, mysterious and eerie!

For some, this is the time when headlights are turned on, to verify the ongoing surroundings. There’s also some strange sounds, but don’t worry it is all part of the adventure. Depending on the gushing river patterns, you may bump into your friend’s inner tube which may make you go into another direction. The key is to have fun but be cautious at the same time. As you proceed throughout the cave, your guide will make sure you stay secured and informed of all the fascinating areas of the cave.

One of the things I try to do as the guide is giving the history and culture of the cave, is to try identify what he is talking about which makes the tour more realistic and exciting! Some of the things to look out for are stalactites, stalagmites, vine draped cliff walls, sparkling flowstones, bats, epiphytes plus more!

So what do you say? Are you ready to give cave tubing a try and have the ride of your life?
